Here’s a straightforward recipe for homemade chili, hearty and flavorful, using common ingredients. Adjust spices or ingredients to your taste.

Ingredients:

    • 2 tbsp olive oil
    • 1 yellow onion, diced
    • 2 lbs. ground beef, 90% lean
    • 3 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 green bell pepper, seeded and diced
    • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and diced
    • 3 tbsp tomato paste
    • 1 tbsp brown sugar, optional
    • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
    • 2 tsp hot sauce
    • 1 cup chicken broth
    • 1 cube beef bouillon, or 1 tsp better than bouillon
    • 28 oz. crushed tomatoes
    • 14.5 oz. diced tomatoes, undrained
    • 16 oz. Kidney Beans, drained

Seasoning:

    • 2 tbsp chili powder
    • 1 tsp Each: ground cumin, dried oregano, salt, mustard powder
    • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
    • 1 pinch red pepper flakes

Directions:

    • Saute onion and garlic in oil.
    • Brown hamburger, add liquid ingredients, then add dry ingredients.
    • Mix well, transfer to crockpot.
    • Cook on low for 6-8 hours.
    • Salt/pepper to taste.
    • Top with chopped onions, chopped bell pepper, and grated cheese.
